Doll Makover

A few years ago we got our, then, 6 year old daughter a American Girl-like doll from Target.  She has loved it!  However, the hair on the doll was not the best.  Anyway, this year she chose to use her money from her grandmothers to buy a real American Girl doll and give the old one to her 3 year old sister for Christmas, to her delight.  The problem, this is what the doll's hair looked like:

Yes, this is photoshopped but my flash was acting wonky so I had to fix it as best I could.  Basically, you get the idea that the hair was BAD!

My Mother-in-law (who is the most amazing woman and one of my dearest friends), had an idea to get her new hair.  She let my daughter pick the new hair from dollparts.com (she chose "Modern Elegance" in red) and then she ordered it and this last weekend we went down and she replaced the hair.

First she (and my older daughter) cut all the bad hair off

Then she used a razor to get the hair cut as close as possible to the head

Then she used a razor blade to shave it even closer

In the end we had a bald doll

pretty cute still I have to say

Then she took put E600 glue on the doll's head and attached the wig

She had to remove a little of the bottom of the wig since it was a little too big

She then used some pins to hold the wig in place until the glue dried

The doll sat a little voodooed for a little while

In the end we had a brand new doll with hair that didn't rat horribly.

Pretty, isn't she?

Thanks Clara!

This year we participated in a swap through the Yahoo! Gluten Free Recipes Group and it was so much fun.  We got our package yesterday and my daughter was so excited!  Clara sent us some amazing Liz Lovely German chocolate cookies and we expect the Ginger Molassas ones to be equally as good -- They were actually soft, I'm trying hard not to snitch a little.  Along with some hot cereal she can't wait to try and some sample packs of Mary's Gone crackers.  So yummy!  In addition Clara made my daughter a bag with her name on it and a bookmark -- she loves to read, she was so excited Clara took the time to make these for her.

This was so much fun we can't wait until next year.

Play Dough

So on Friday my kids were out of school and were playing nicely and one of them asked to play with playdough. Which wouldn't have been a problem except we didn't have any. So I set out to find a GF playdough recipe and found one on the "Cel-Kids" website. I followed it the first time, but it turned out a bit stickier than I would have liked. So I am added more flour to the recipe. I also added some Vanilla for flavor. I decided not to color so there wouldn't be any fighting over what color they wanted me to color it or what color they wanted to play with. Here is my new recipe:

GF Playdough
3/4 C rice flour
1/2 C cornstarch
1/2 C salt
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 C water
1 tsp vegetable oil
Food Coloring

Mix ingredients. Cook and stir quickly on low heat for 3 minutes or until it forms a ball. Cool completely before storing in a sealable plastic bag. I like to keep mine in the fridge, I think it stores better.
